Here are a few of our favorites right now ... but please note that availability and selection will vary by location.

Helleborus

Commonly called Lenten Roses, these perennials are a traditional cottage garden favorites and an essential addition to any shade garden. They are valued for their late winter and early spring blooms. Blooms are often a creamy white tinged with pink, but they can be pink or red depending on the cultivar. Evergreen in warmer climates, Lenten Roses have leathery, dark green foliage which is one of the plant's most appealing features. The plants are surprisingly frost-resistant and many are evergreen. Helleborus orientalis and its colorful hybrids are the most popular varieties for garden use. They are excellent for bringing early color to shady borders and woodland areas.

Heuchera

Commonly called Coral Bells because of their terra cotta colored flowers; these perennials usually begin to bloom in early June and don't stop until the end of August. Dead-heading spent blooms usually prolongs the bloom season. The ornamental foliage is often ruffled and is available in a variety of colors. Heuchera are easy to grow in well drained soil. For best results, they should be planted in part shade to full sun. Sunlight intensifies the color of both the foliage and flowers. Whether planted in containers or in the garden, they add months of dramatic color and texture.

Autumn Ferns

A durable, very easy to grow perennial fern that looks great in mass plantings. Autumn ferns can tolerate dry spells better than many other ferns. New fronds emerge a beautiful coppery-pink, and then mature to a shiny, dark green. They contrast well with the copper tones of the new growth. Fronds are evergreen in areas with mild winters. For best results, grow these ferns in an area that receives shade to partial shade. Autumn Ferns will tolerate some sun if the soil remains moist. Cut back old fronds in late winter or early spring to tidy up the plant.
