Beautiful Trees

There are not many things in our lives that we take for granted like the majestic trees. We pass them by daily without considering their impact on every moment of our lives.

One of the most talked-about problems facing the world today is that of Global Warming. The earth is heating up faster than in any other time in history. The long-term effects could be disastrous. Coastal cities could be swallowed as polar ice caps slowly melt and the oceans' levels rise. Agricultural areas could be destroyed by heat and drought. Drinking water could be reduced to a fraction of what is now available.

Trees can help in this massive problem. They absorb carbon dioxide in the atmosphere that is causing this "greenhouse effect." The American Forestry Association reports that there are 100 million tree-planting sites available around homes and in our towns and cities throughout the United States. Planting those 100 million trees could offset America's carbon dioxide emissions by 18 million tons per year - saving American consumers $4 billion each year! The health of our country could be drastically improved as this carbon dioxide is converted into available oxygen.

Trees can also give you immediate benefits. Did you know that three properly planted trees around your home can cut your air-conditioning bill by 10-50%? Planting deciduous trees (trees that lose their leaves) will allow sunlight through in the winter helping to warm your house when you need it.

It is easy to see how important trees are to every one of us. Plant two or three today and enjoy the benefits that they can bring. If you have any questions concerning trees, consult a Georgia Certified Plant Professional at your local Pike Nursery.
