Pike Family Nurseries and The Bedford School
Digging in for Build-A-Pond Project Partnership

to create memorial and enhance students' learning experience

Fairburn, Ga. (October 2006) – Pike Family Nurseries, the country’s largest independently owned complete garden center, and The Bedford School, a nine-month program specifically designed to meet the needs of children with learning disabilities, are joining together to create a water garden memorial area in honor of people who have made a significant impact on the lives of learning disabled children.

Located to the left of the main entrance of the Bedford School, the area will feature a pond, memorial garden and bronze sculpture of children retrieving a toy airplane from a tree. Water gardening professionals from Pike Family Nurseries are helping the school’s administration to create and install the pond on school grounds. As a partner of Pike Family Nurseries, Blalock Stone & Water will install the pond on Saturday, October 28.

"Pike Family Nurseries has gone above and beyond the call of duty to make this memorial a special place for our school," said Jim Pridmore, maintenance director of The Bedford School.

The Build-A-Pond project will also serve as an area of growth for students. Teachers at the school plan to use the space to enhance their outdoor education curriculum and also get the students involved in the care of the area. The first person honored in the memorial area will Mr. William "Bill" O. James, a retired Delta Air Lines pilot and founding board member of The Bedford School. Bill served The Bedford School until his death in January, 2006.
