Lawn Care

In the southeast, lawns are often the largest part of the home landscape. They unify the landscape and to most homeowners, their lawns are much more than just a plot of grass. They often serve as a playground for the children, a gathering place for a barbecue, a gallery to enjoy Mother Nature's color show, or as a quiet oasis to commune with nature and catch an afternoon nap.

Turf grasses are also environmentally important. They cool and clean our environment, protect soils and ground waters, absorb noise and carbon dioxide while providing beautiful and superior recreational surfaces.

The biggest investment in your lawn will be in time and labor, rather than money. In order for the turf grass to thrive, it requires proper installation and ongoing care.It has to be watered, mowed and fertilized on a regular basis. In addition, there needs to weed and insect controls and annual aeration of the soil.It is also a good idea to test the pH level of the soil on an annual basis. You may need to apply lime to bring the soil into proper balance.Sure, keeping your turf grass lush, green and healthy can be a challenge, but it is well worth the effort. There is nothing more striking and rewarding than a well-manicured lawn.

Keep in mind that although some turf grasses are more shade tolerant than others, all types of turf grass need at least six hours of sunlight per day to thrive. If you have an area that receives less than six hours of sunlight, consider planting a shade-tolerant ground cover instead of grass.
